Friends of the
World of Inquiry School
The World of Inquiry fund supports the hands-on, experiential learning of students at World of Inquiry School, a kindergarten through 12th-grade school in the Rochester City School District. Students from every grade level participate in field studies and outdoor adventures. This fund provides support so that all students can participate in these adventures.
The school's Expeditionary Learning model fosters high achievement by taking students into their community, nature, and farther destinations where they have meaningful, real-life experiences that extend their comfort zones and expand their horizons. Through outdoor adventures such as canoeing, white water rafting, rock climbing, and cross-country skiing, students learn to challenge themselves, work as a team, and become stewards of nature.
Your donation of $20 would give a Kindergartener the experience of canoeing for the first time. A donation of $50 would give the students of the Outdoor Club the opportunity to experience the peace and beauty of the woods in winter as they explore Cumming Nature Center on cross-country skis. Your donation of $100 would help to send an eighth grader to Camp Cory, which might be the first night he spends outside of the city. And a donation of $200 would help a family send their fifth grader to New York City where they will learn about immigration at Ellis Island.
Trips taken in years past include:
- canoeing at Bay Creek in Irondequoit
- exploring county parks such as Mendon Ponds, Webster Park, and Durand Eastman
- overnights to the YMCA's Camp Cory
- New York City
- Washington D.C.
- Gettysburg, PA
- white water rafting in Letchworth State Park
- rock climbing at Rock Ventures
- snow shoeing and cross-country skiing at Cumming Nature Center in Naples
At World of Inquiry we have BIG ideas and BIG plans! Please consider supporting Friends of World of Inquiry so we can help make these dreams a reality for all of our students.
