Curriculum Materials
From time to time, REF-sponsored programs have the opportunity to create curriculum materials of lasting value. This page provides links to those materials, for use by teachers in the Rochester City School District and beyond!
Healthy Cooking, Eating and Literacy for the Third Grade Classroom
Activities for the classroom meeting New York State educational standards
Created during the 2008-2009 school year under the banner of REF's Recipe for Success program, this curriculum provides concrete activities that engage students in learning about healthy nutrition and eating, tasting food, preparing food and following recipes to create food. This material was created by Jo Wilson, a consultant and retired RCSD teacher.
With her initial implementation, student participants received cookbooks to keep after the unit was offered in class. Teachers also received funds to pay for food. However, this curriculum unit could be used in whole or in part to support a variety of classrooms with varied levels of resources.
